Dinosaur Birthday Card - boy

Hello Crafters

It seems like ages since I posted anything on here.  I haven't had much time for crafting recently but had a card that needed to be done and was so happy to be able to sit down and try to work it out today.

I have said before that I really am not the best when it comes to actually making kids cards with kid type themes and so this was super difficult for me.  To be honest I could do with alot more practice and so I ma going to make up a few batches with different boy type themes just to get my head into it and so that it may be a little easier in the future.

It was just a block that I couldn't seem to get over.

Anyway, for this card I used a Hunkydory 8x8 Card Blank, 2 A4 sheets of Silver Mirri Card, 12x12 piece of Brown Core'dinations, bakers twine, peel-offs, printer, Craft Artist Professional, Digital Designer by Do Crafts - Me to You All Occasions Disc, a dinosaur colouring sheet which I adapted and split etc (by ryansias.com), Puffy Paint - red/ brown/ blue, Gold Ink Pad, 3D Clear Glaze, Spectrum Noir Pens, 2 strips of Clear Acetate, A4 piece of velum, Sand-It kit, double sided tape, red line tape, foam tape & 3D Glue Gel.

Firstly I trimmed down the Silver Mirri Card & the Core'dination to fit the card and the topper.  All the pieces were then sanded using the Sand-it Kit and distressed using the Tim Holtz Distressing Tool.  I then inked around the edges of these using a gold coloured ink pad.  This just made it look a little aged.
I coloured the sentiment and the footprints with Spectum noirs in the lighter brown colour family. and again aged the Mirri number 2 and the silver mirri that the sentiment was layered onto.
I attached the main piece of mirri to the card using double sided tape, before adding the Core'dinations I wrapped around some bakers twin and attached using red line tape as this is particularly strong.  The "Son" was attached using foam tape and the "for you" number "2" and footprints were all attached using 3D glue gel, the "today" is made up using silver peel-off letters.
The "for you Son", footprints and internal sentiment were all done on the Digital Designer Programme, then printed just with a normal printer.
The topper was resized and split into different sections using Craft Artist Professional.  I printed these out and coloured using Spectrum Noirs.  The dinosaurs are blue as this is the little boys favourite colour.  I used red Puffy Paint for the lava, brown Puffy Paint for the darker brown bits of the volcano and ground and blue Puffy Paint for the lil' Dino's belly.  I added 3D clear glaze to the eyes of all the dino's.
I added the Mirri background to the card with double sided tape and before attaching the piece of Core'dinations I attached two strips of acetate to the back of this using red line tape.  I then cut to size and added the flying Dino's.
I attached the volcano section to the Core'dinations using double sided tape.  I used foam tape to attach the piece with the grass and dinos' on, this just gives and illusion of depth.

Showing the dimension & texture aswell as the acetate strips holding the flying dinosaur to give a little movement to the card.

For the Insert.  I layered the sentiment on matching card from the front and attached to a piece of Velum which I trimmed to size.  I added the fossil footprints with 3D Glue Gel and attached the insert to the card just at one side using clear double sided tape.  The sentiment and footprints were coloured using Spectrum Noirs.
Well that's me for the moment.  No more crafty things needed for a wee while but I still have the new Crafters Companion Magazine & freebies to work through, plus treated myself to some Sheena Douglas Stamps which I cannot wait to get stuck into.

Hope you are all well, Happy Crafting,

Tags - White Wedding?

Ah the weekend :)

Just a quick post to show the Tags that I have made for this months swap theme, White Wedding.  As you know I have been struggling for over a week now on ideas for a wedding card and I am not the sort of girl that has ever dreamt of the big event and have only ever attended one, so this is the worst theme ever for me.  I was at a complete loss but rather than not take part I did put something together to submit.  I just hope that it goes down well.

This tag is just really a topper from Gems Designs matted on a pieces of embossed Black Centura Pearl.  I wrapped some ribbon around where it joins and added a couple of tiny bows made with the Ultimate Pro.  I added some Clear Star glitter to the dress and veil using the Sakura Gel Pens and some sparkle with little red gems.  I also used my favourite crafty item, 3D glaze to the spider and decoupaged rose.

Just showing a close up of the glazed decoupaged rose.

I added a topper and again used the Sakura pen to add glitter highlights to the dress.  I glazed the frame and added little drops to the flowers in an attempted to make it look like dew or water drops.  Red gems added to finish.

This is aiming to show the dew drops on the roses, created using the 3D glaze.

Well she is wearing white, I am sure it passes, doesn't it?  Maybe as a version of a white wedding anyway.

Enjoy your day whatever you get up to.

Happy Crafting,

Postcards - Touchy Feely

Happy Friday

What a quick week that was!! What crafty plans do you all have for the weekend?

I am planning on doing that wedding card, really I am.

So the postcard theme for the swap group this month was touchy feely.  I was stumped but think I have managed to cover it.

I actually got the sewing machine out for this postcard creating a background out of all different pieces of scrap material from my stash, lots of different colours & textures.  I think it works OK?
I added 3 buttons finishing with a flower & a gem in each.

For this postcard I used different textures of paper, vellum & card, some of which I embossed.  I added loads of different types of ribbon, different widths & textures.  This was finished with one of the flowers made using the Crafters Companion Quilling Dies and Core'dinations Card.
I just hope they are a good representation and whoever receives them is happy to have them for their collection.

Have a wonderful weekend & Happy Crafting,

ATC - Fairy Folk

Morning All

So this months swap themes were great for me as I could just pull out some kits and add some other wee bits & bobs.  Things I haven't used in a while.

The ATC theme was "Fairy Folk" and I have some lovely images but still no ink for my printer, I know, I know really should have replaced it by now.  But oh how I hate shopping.  Anyway, since I couldn't print I decided to get out the lovely Crafters Companion Fairyopolis Kit.

For this ATC I created a background using some holographic card & a piece of patterned paper, tied together in the centre with a strip of ribbon.  I the popped on a flower and a sentiment from the rub-on and added gems to each corner.
For the fairy I also used a rub on but put it on a piece of snow white card and cut around the outside.  I added glitter to the wings and attached using 3D glue gel leaving these free to move.

The background of this ATC was a piece of Purple Centura Pearl card stock embossed using the Crafters Companion Regal Damask 6x6 Embossing Folder.  I added a rub on sentiment to a piece of patterned paper and gems to the corners.
For the fairy I did the same as before and also a little butterfly.  I added the butterfly to the centre of the flower with 3D glue gel and also attached the flower & fairy in the same way, just gives dimension.
I love fairies so cannot wait to see what the other girls have put together.  I bet they are going to be stunning as always.

Happy Crafting,

Morehead 1st Birthday Card

Good Evening

Finally had a wee couple of days to craft which has chilled me out and helped me relax a little.  I have managed to create a lovely 1st birthday card and all the swaps for my swap group.  This means that I am left with a card for a lovely little boy and that dreaded wedding card.  That sounds terrible, the wedding thing is cool its just I am not finding the inspiration for the wedding card jumping out at me!  Seems I am seriously lacking in wedding themed things within my crafty stash, refusing to buy more though, I have crafty things coming out my ears and am hoping to use alot of this before purchasing further.

The items I have used for today's card are 8x8 Hunkydory Card Blank, A4 piece of Silver Mirri Card, Some lovely designer floral papers, 12x12 piece of Pink Core'dinations Card, Crafters Companion Quilling Die, "Me to You" sentiments, Morehead Topper from Crafters Companion New Inspirations Magazine, buttons, peel-offs, butterfly embellishment, Sand-it Kit, self adhesive gems & pearls, pink ink pad, 3D glue gel, double sided tape & foam pads.

I cut to size the Silver Mirri Card and gutted the centre to use as a matt for the topper.  The Core'dinations was cut down to size and I sanded around the edges, then used the Tim Holtz Distressing Tool to rough them up a little and also curled the corners.  After I inked the edges with the pink ink pad.  Doing this with all the papers gives the one colour theme running throughout and further helps to tie the card together.
I then added a strip of Mirri Card and a piece of patterned paper, this was just to add more layers of interest.  As with all the layers I distressed, inked and curled the layers.
I then added the topper which had been matt & layered onto the same papers in the same way.  So far everything was attached to the card using double sided tape.
I added the "Happy Birthday" sentiment with foam tape, the number one was cut out of Silver Mirri Card and attached using 3D glue gel, the "today" was made up using peel-offs.
The butterfly is a beautiful embellishment which I purchased from Remnant Kings a few years ago.  This was shaped and attached to the card using 3D glue gel and the trail made up with gems & pearls.
The lovely flowers were made using the Crafters Companion Stamen plus the Large & Small Camelia Quilling Dies.  I added buttons to the centres and attached to the card using 3D glue gel which has the best hold.

Just a photo popped in to show the dimension created by curling the edges and adding the wonderful flowers made with the quilling dies.

For the insert I used a plain piece of white 160GSM paper cut down to size and inked around the edges using the pink ink pad.  I then just used a piece of the Core'dinations, Silver Mirri Card and patterned paper, inking, sanding and curling as with the larger pieces on the front of the card.  These were attached using double sided tape.
I inked the sentiment and attached using 3D glue gel and added gems to the corners to finish.
Well that's me, hope you all like it.

Happy Crafting,

Amanda xx

Sunday 7 April 2013

The swaps received from my crafty friends.

Good Afternoon Crafty Friends

Did you find that short week long? Yeah me too, I was working Saturday this week and as I don't usually do weekends this feels like it should be Saturday today but its Sunday and the week is over.  None of what I just typed makes sense but I am sure you know what I mean.

I have not had any crafty time this week at all as I have been spending lots of time with my little sick ferret.  He was at the hospital in Kilmarnock on Thursday for his blood tests & x-ray.  Oliver has a slipped disc and so needs to be kept separate from the other ferrets and on complete cage rest so he is now in the house so we can keep him company and give him lots of attention.

This is little Oliver
It cheered me right up this week when the swaps arrived from my crafty friends.  As always they are just stunning.  Loads of crafty genius with techniques that I have not even thought of using.

This week I will be doing that wedding card I have been thinking about now for over a week, still no ideas though.  Think I need a boost to my crafty mojo.  I also have a couple of cards to do for a friend but they are kids cards and are proving to be a challenge as I am so used to doing cards for adults, will be great fun though.  Planning on doing a little paper mache or deco-patch maybe.

Well, enjoy the rest of your day and I hope the week ahead is good to you.

Happy Crafting,

Gorjuss Card with Crafters Companion Quilling Dies

Happy Easter Monday :)

I do hope you have all had a fab time and you MUST have indulged in some chocolate?  I will be sitting down tonight to some as have been really good so far.  The temptation is just too much now though and it has to be done.

I have had a quiet weekend as one of my little fuzzies is unwell and I have been spending alot of my time ensuring he is comfortable.  The little one is probably sick of seeing me and probably would like some peace!!

As you know from previous posts I have knitted some mini hats for Innocent Smoothies but that is the extent of my knitting talents, I learned especially to take part in their Age UK annual charity event.  Well my Brothers Fiance gave me a ball of Pom Pom wool to knit up, I actually didn't think I would be able to but I did.  It isn't perfect but by the end I managed to get the hang of it and will definitely be making some other projects using it in the future.

As this was an old brand of wool, probably one of the first to release this style, I was unable to get another ball.  Instead of a blanket, it is more of a comforter size and I am sure a little kiddie will have fun dragging it about the place.  I have left it just plain for them to decorate & personalise with patches etc themselves.

You can see the bits where I must have twisted the wool and not put the Pom Pom in-line correctly.
As well as this they also needed another wee gift set which I was only too happy to put together.  As this was just a couple of products I didn't use a basket to put it all in.  Instead I embossed a piece of Centura Pearl Card using one of the Crafter Companion Embossalicious Folders "Regal Frame", it is 6x6 in size an made a perfectly pretty base.

Aswell as that, I also had a request from my Mum to make an 18th Birthday Card for a girl.  I love getting requests from family as they do not specify what they want and it means I can play with any new products that I have purchased.

This time it was the Do Crafts Gorjuss A4 Paper/ Topper Kit and my lovely new Quilling Dies from Crafters Companion.

I decided on an 8x8 size card and for this I have used a Hunkydory Card Blank, A piece of Silver Mirri Card, a piece of Black Centura Pearl Card, a piece of Purple Centura Pearl Card, a left over piece of embossed Black Centura Pearl Card using the dots Embossalicious Folder, the outer frame from a card I made the other day - Purple Centura Pearl Card embossed with the Floral Frenzy Embossalicious Folder, a square topper, oval topper, tag & piece of purple paper from the Gorjuss Kit,  purple pigment ink pad, glitter embossing powder, "happy birthday" stamp, gems, buttons, Crafters Companion Camelia Small & Large Quilling Dies, bakers twine, "Me to You" sentiment.

I cut a piece of Silver Mirri Card to fit just inside the 8x8 card blank, and a piece of plain Purple Centura Pearl again just to fit inside the Mirri Card, these were the basic matts.  Before attaching, I inked around the edges of all the card elements using the purple ink pad, I also wrapped some bakers twine around the Purple Card and attached around the back using red line tape so that I am confident it will not come undone.  These were added to the card using double sided tape.
I then added a strip of the cut off Mirri down the right side (no waste), and over this I added a piece of black embossed Centura Pearl Card both added again with double sided tape.
On top of this is attached the frame using 3D glue gel and the tag which I stamped a "happy birthday" sentiment on in purple pigment ink and then heat embossed using a clear glitter embossing powder and also using the glue gel attached to the card just at the one end.
The main topper was layered onto a piece of Black Centura Pearl and attached to the card using 3D glue gel for a bit of dimension.
I added the "18" stickers from the Card Kit and inked in purple to get rid of the stark white look, attached the bakers twine bow using glue gel and added some gems just to finish.
The main flowers were created using the Crafters Companion Quilling Dies.
Leann has a fab video tutorial on the CC web page and I followed this exactly.  I cut out the Stamens and the two sizes of flower, popped a strip of tape along the bit to be quilled and then used the tool to wrap them tightly and finished with a tiny strip of red line tape.
The large flower is made from Core'dinations card stock, sanded and then inked with the purple pad and a sparkly button added as the centre.  For the small flowers these were cut out of the left over piece of paper from the Gorjuss Card Kit, again they were inked just to match in and buttons added as the centre pieces.
The insert was created from a piece of the paper from the Gorjuss Kit attached to the card just at one side with a strip of double sided tape.  The mini topper matching the main topper on the front was attached using 3D Glue Gel as was the "Me to You" sentiment which I coloured with Spectrum Noirs and inked using the purple pigment ink pad to match it in with the card colours.
This just shows the fab dimension created with the quilling die flowers, and the tag is also only attached at one end and was shaped just to allow some further movement.
Well, that's me for the holiday weekend, back to work tomorrow.  I have a wedding card to make at some point, not really sure what to do for this so probably good that I have sometime to think it through.

Happy Crafting,

Amanda xx
